What an incredible story! He’s alive because she knew CPR!  Your support helps fund the AHA’s lifesaving programs like CPR Training.

Our friend, Dave, doesn’t remember the three and a half weeks after his cardiac arrest. Fortunately, he wasn’t alone and thankfully, the person he was with knew CPR.

That might be the only reason why Dave is alive today. It’s also the driving force behind our Nation of Lifesavers movement to train as many people as possible in CPR so you have someone next to you who can save your life in case of a cardiac arrest.

There’s a long way to go – of people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital, only about 40% receive the immediate CPR they need. We need your support to help fund programs like our Nation of Lifesavers.

Fifty years ago, the American Heart Association established the first CPR guidelines. And today, through your support, we offer a wide range of CPR and emergency cardiovascular care courses nationwide.

In fact, Dave’s wife, Kris, learned CPR at work and used it to save her husband’s life Here’s more of Dave’s story from that fateful evening:

“I remember sitting down with my wife to watch our favorite show together. The next thing I knew, I was waking up in a hospital bed three and a half weeks later.

Thank goodness my wife had taken a CPR class at work. If she hadn’t learned CPR, I don’t think I would have had much of a chance.”

Dave’s survival represents a victory for our Nation of Lifesavers, but 9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital don’t survive. We need your help more than ever.

Cardiac arrest can strike anyone at any time. You can help give more people a fighting chance by putting someone in the same room who knows CPR. Donate now to support programs like our Nation of Lifesavers and help save lives like Dave’s.
