A randomized controlled trial by researchers at the University of Warwick found that several other forms of resuscitation, including cough resuscitation, percussion stimulation and tapping, had no survival benefit compared to standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

A review published in the journal Resuscitation describes CPR as the gold standard for resuscitation during cardiac arrest both in and out of hospital. The findings challenge the depiction of real-life scenes often seen on television and in movies depicting techniques such as tordial striking.

The study, which analyzed data from 23 previously published studies, found no clear evidence of the effectiveness of preoperative injection, shock, or resuscitation in improving patient outcomes. In fact, the use of previous tumors may even increase the patient’s risk.

Contrary to what is often claimed in the media, CPR for cough is not a recommended technique for treating cardiac arrest. Misinformation about cough resuscitation on social media and confusion between cardiac arrest and heart disease can delay treatment.

The research underlines the importance of prioritizing resuscitation over other methods, as recommended by the UK Health Council and international first aid guidelines. Immediate initiation of CPR and rapid access to a defibrillator significantly increases the chances of survival for people having a heart attack.

Famous writer Dr. Christopher Smith emphasizes the importance of following basic life-saving precautions, such as calling emergency services, initiating CPR, and finding a defibrillator in case of fainting. Quick action and surroundings play an important role in improving the quality of life.

Sue Hampshire, British Health Council’s director of clinical development and services, underlines the need for urgent action in the event of cardiac arrest and urges the public to learn CPR and take precautions, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Professor Gavin Perkins, co-author and chair of the
Warwick Trial, highlights the life-saving potential of rescuers and emphasizes the importance of calling for help and initiating chest compressions when the unconscious mind is confronted by an alien spirit.

In conclusion, although alternative cardiopulmonary resuscitation has been advocated in the past, a systematic review provides strong evidence contradicting its effectiveness, reinforcing resuscitation as the cornerstone of cardiac therapy.
